Fans rejoiced when creator Eric Kripke confirmed that his hit series, Supernatural, would be returning for an additional nine seasons.
Originally intended for a total of five seasons, the overwhelming support of the fans has kept the show alive. Showing no signs of stopping, Kripke and the other writers got together and sketched out a grand storyline to tie everything up in a neat twenty-season bundle.

“I left the show after the conclusion of the apocalypse story arc,” Kripke said in an interview. “I thought going farther would just beat the franchise into the ground. However, it seems that, like the protagonists Sam and Dean, the show literally will not die.”
Lead actors Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles have already signed on for the remainder of the show. Misha Collins reportedly said “sure, I don’t have anything planned for the next nine years.”
When asked if they were finally going to address Adam’s fate, Kripke’s response was “…who?”
Supernatural, which now holds the record for longest-running North-American sci-fi show, has been bold in producing episodes that break the mold. “Changing Channels” in season five featured Sam and Dean trapped inside a series of television shows. “The French Mistake” in season six has the characters breaking right through the fourth wall and emerging into the “real” world. The show writer’s plan to continue this trend of unorthodox episodes, throwing around ideas like a musical episode, a Minecraft episode, and many more.
“It’s not jumping the shark if you never come down,” the writers often proclaim, quoting Chuck from the episode “The Real Ghostbusters.”
Kripke confirmed a few different plots to look forward to down the road. To fill up nine seasons worth of story, he says they are considering further exploring the land of Oz, as well as introducing Artificial Intelligence, hunting the Alpha vampire, meeting an actual trickster, and dedicating another season to fan-favorite villains, the Leviathans.
He also confirmed that the show will, in fact, finally introduce aliens.
“We’re doing this, guys. It’s been a long time coming. The other writers and I aren’t content with dominating the demon, angel, monster, and ghost market. X-Files, we’re coming for you.”
The hype in light of this announcement was astronomical, with fans managing to shut down Twitter’s servers temporarily with the outpouring of tweets. When it comes to interacting with followers of the show and incorporating their desires into the story, Supernatural is in a league of its own. However, Kripke shot down fan requests to do a crossover with Sherlock or Doctor Who.
“That would be a little bit excessive,” he said.
