The history of music is filled with artists who lost their spark and went into a downward spiral. Elvis Presley got fat and took a liking to white jump suits and drugs. Green Day left behind their Punk-Rock roots in exchange for enormous piles of money.
But the worst offender in this regard is the girl we all love to hate: Miley Cyrus. Or, as I prefer to think of her, Hannah Montana. The young girl with a southern accent that took the world by storm with a brilliant combination of witty television and groundbreaking music.

Her lyrics used to mean something. As a younger man, I found myself inspired by hits like “Who Said,” telling me I can be anything.
“Who said, who said I can’t be ten feet tall? I say, I say that I can have it all.”
Compare that jaw-dropping line to the piles of crap she puts out now.
“I got two, ooh, ooh letters for you, one of them’s F and the other one’s U.”
I understand that she’s trying to distance herself from her Disney sellout past, but there’s no denying that her old songs really resonated with people. Can’t she have The Best of Both Worlds? You can still stick it to the man and leave Disney behind without abandoning that beautiful spark that was Hannah Montana.
Take me back to the day when Miley showing The Other Side of Me was her blonde alter-ego, not her twerking behind. Back when the line “Underneath it all, I’m just like you” was about wanting to show her true self, not wanting to show everything in nude photo shoots.
Plenty of artists have had bumps in the road; Nobody’s Perfect. Sometimes you’ve got to work it again and again till you get it right. It’s not too late for Miley to return to her roots and recapture the icon, the sensation that was Hannah Montana. She has the talent. She has the fans, waiting in the wings for her to return to sanity. Life’s What You Make It, Miley. So let’s make it right.
